There are tons of ways out there to get rid of unwanted facial and body hair?—be it shaving, hair removal creams, or epilation! Waxing, on the other hand, could scare a lot of girls (and even men!). After all, waxing is notorious for being painful! With all those waxing challenges and hilarious reactions on YouTube. It’s no wonder waxing gets such a reputation—especially when it comes to our more tender parts.
In a nutshell, Brazilian waxing is complete & thorough pubic hair removal from the front to the back. It’s definitely a level up from the typical bikini wax and many modifications that also allow you to keep hair in certain areas if prefered. But whether you’re into it or not, there are certain benefits to Brazilian waxing that trumps other methods of hair removal including smoother skin, longer-lasting effects, and finer hair growth.
Thinking of waxing it all OFF? Then you’ve come to the right place because we’ve got you covered with all the things you have to know if you’re thinking of trying a Brazilian wax anytime soon.
1. DO! Consult a professional
D-I-Ys are all the rage, but don’t take the risk of waxing your hair off on your own—especially if it’s your first time. Instead, head straight to a trusted waxing salon! Sure, it might be more expensive than just shaving it all off on your own, but not only will they give you the proper aftercare tips you need to know, but you’re guaranteed to be safer from possible infections that are common when waxing/shaving procedures are done wrong.
2. DON'T! Shave before a Brazilian wax session
Your hair should be at least 1/4' to 1/2" long if you’re thinking about getting a Brazilian wax. So surrender the razor for at least two weeks and let it grow! Hairs that are too long though will cause more pain !when applying the wax so try to keep hair within the size of a grain if rice for best results & least amount of pain.
3. DON'T! Forget to soothe your skin after a wax
72 hours after a Brazilian session, always apply a gentle, fragrance free cream to soothe your skin. They apply a oil right after the wax, but you will want to invest in buying your aftercare package through your Esthetician for best quality ingredients. If your skin becomes irritatied, itchy, bumpy or inflamed reach out to your Esthetician for aftercare tips.
4. DO! Return to your waxing parlor to maintain your smooth skin
If you’re thinking of maintaining your smooth skin, waxing centers recommend waxing every 4-6 weeks after your first session. Always receive red bumps from shaving? Hate the re-growth stubble when hair starts growing back in? That can all be a memory of the past once you start receiving regular Brazilians. Who knew you could go for a month, hair-free & bump free? Soon, you’ll be able to say au revoir to your razors and hair removing creams!
5. DON'T! Wax when you have skin issues
You’re very much aware of what happens when you wax your vaj. Now, do you really want to wax over skin issues? Be it a sunburn, a rash, or anything else, it’ll only irritate the area and make it worse. Be sure to nurse your skin back to health before attempting to wax it.
6. DON'T! Shave in between wax treatments
Ideally when starting up the Brazilian waxing process it will take generally 3 full waxing sessions before ALL hair is even. What this means is that hair grows in 3 different phases thus causing hair to come to the surface sooner than others in certain areas (and only in the begining 3 waxing sessions). By the time you have hit your 4th wax session ALL your hair should be the same hair growth phase! Make sure you DO NOT shave in between these first few sessions as it will cause this process to begin all over again.
7. DON'T! Party too hard
Drinking alcohol or caffeine before a waxing session may not be the best idea. After all, these cause your pores to shrink and may result in more pain when you wax. Save the celebrating for AFTER you leave the waxing bed!
8. DON'T! Never wax PRIOR to your period (especially for your first time wax)
The pain level is heightened more during this time frame due to the surge of hormones in the body. You want to plan to not wax anything the week PRIOR to your monthly cycle. If you don't track your periods this may be the time you will want to start doing it.
9. DO! Wear light & loose fitted clothing, especially underwear.
Like shaving, waxing leaves your skin a bit more sensitive than when you first started. You don’t have to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel on the waxing bed! Wear your most comfortable cotton panties every time you have a waxing session. Yes, granny panties count, too. I always find a great day to wear a dress or flowy skirt is on wax day!
Remember you will more than likely have many friends or family member that feel the need to share their "waxing nightmare" stories with you. DON'T FRET because your experience will most likely NOT be like theirs. Just because an Esthetician can legally lay wax doesn't always mean she SHOULD lay wax. Waxing is an art form that I persoanlly have found passion for so trust in knowing that when you receive a Brazilian from me that you will feel the least amount possible. I give this service the way I would like to receieve my own personal service- the most PAINFREE possible!
